The problem is there is no firm answer to that questions, as it depends on many things. So here we will try and give you some guidance on how to look after your slatwall panels and get the best use from them.
We caution against:
- overloading any single groove.
- overloaded hang-bars and waterfalls.
- heavier weights near the edges.
- not using panel adhesive or enough screws to secure the panel.
If hanging strength is an issue, please contact us to discuss alternatives prior to placing your order.
Installation:
When mounting your slatwall panels to your walls, consider which type of walls you have, with solid walls it is ok to drill and screw directly in using raw plug on the screws. If you have a partition wall, you need to make sure you are screwing directly in to the studs. This is best acheived by using 2×2 battens, screw these to the wall first at either 300mm or 400mm spaces. If you need extra strength space them at 300mm, this will mean each panel at 1200mm wide will be supported by 4 battens.
Also consider using an adheisive where the panels touch the wall or battens for even more added strength.
Slatwall Inserts
Your choice of slatwall inserts can greatly effect the strength of your slatwall panels. We never recommend using slatwall panels without any inserts in the slots. Most hooks, arms etc that you will use with your slatwall panels are made from metal, and without inserts in the slots they are raw unprotected MDF and you can easily make the slot break out ruining your panels.
If you are using your slatwall for light display uses, something like blister packs of mobile phone accessories, then it is ok to use our coloured plastic inserts. These are great for light use, they protect the slot and they are available in many different colours. If you use shelves, display arms or anything similar to display quite heavy products then plastic inserts will not protect the slot and you can make the slot break out ruining your panels.
For medium to heavy duty use we recommend that you use aluminium slatwall inserts. We have two choices available.
Snap-In or Clip-In Aluminium Slatwall Inserts do just as the name suggests, you get your panels mounted on the wall first, then simply clip the inserts from the front. Our other choice is a T shap Aluminium. These are the strongest inserts we sell, they are designed to line the entire slot and be a good tight fit.
Metal inserts add approximately 2½ times the holding strength of plain groove slatwall. For maximum holding strength screw through the metal inserts into the stud-wall
